Mickey Smith
Rose Tyler

*Mickey stood outside of what was known to the public as Canary Wharf, one of the largest sky scrappers in all of London. But to those who worked there, it was known as Torchwood.

He sighed, removing his shades as he stepped into the building. He didn't bother to go to the reception desk...to check in...he didn't have too. He knew where he was going.

He made his way for the lift, scratching his cheek as he did. His stubble was getting a tad bit out of control, damn near close to a real beard now. He made a note to shave if he got a chance later in the evening, but he highly doubted it. Once in the lift, he pressed the button for floor 57. He wasn't sure if that was excatly where she was at that moment...but he wouldn't be surprised.

She was always there, trying to find out if anything odd was going on in Norway. He shook his head as the doors opened up, stepping out, his hands automatically finding there way to his jean pockets.*

*Rose rubbed her tired eyes, the table she sat at covered with papers. She yawned quietly as she picked up the nearest paper. She'd already gone over every detail but it didn't hurt to double, or in her case triple check. She groaned softly, coming up with the same conclusion. Nothing. She sighed and stood up, moving away from the table to get a drink of water*

You could just let the analysists do there job, Rose *Mickey spoke quietly as he came into the room. He didn't even have to ask to know what she was looking for...the same thing she was always looking for.

Hope.

He moved over to the table, glancing at the papers, a small smile coming across his lips* Look...a cow stopped traffic for two hours...*He glanced to her, wondering if she would find it as amusing as he did*

*She grumbled, pealing away the label of her water bottle* I'd let them do their jobs if they were thorough enough for me to trust them. *She knew they did their jobs, and did them well, but she wasn't satisfied. She was never satisfied until she did it herself and even then she did it over and over until she was 110% positive there was nothing there. And everytime it broke her heart a little more. The once bouncy, up for anything Rose had been replaced with a shell of a person, moving from report to report, the tiniest bit of hope sparkling in her blank eyes.

She sighed and ran her hand through her hair* Yeah, cows stopping traffic. *She smiled her new smile, the one that looked a little forced, even if it wasn't* Two page article on cows.

You should trust them more. This is half the reasno your not sleeping as well...*He sighed. He had been staying with Pete Tyler for monthes before they followed the cybermen through the Void. Because of that, he was known technically living under the same roof as Rose.

But she was never there. She was at Torchwood more then the founders.

He shifted a little* Your Mum wanted me to come get you and make you come home for supper. *He hadn't been to fond of the idea when Jackie nearly shoved him out of the house*

I know I should, I just can't. *She shook her head* And I wouldn't be able to sleep anyways, because of the dreams. *She always had the same dream, replaying her last encounter with the Doctor* I'm not hungry.

You should trust them more. This is half the reason your not sleeping as well...*He sighed.

I know I should but I can't bring myself to it. *She shrugged and moved back to her seat* Besides, I wouldn't be able to sleep anyways, because of the dreams. *Ever since the void had closed, when she did sleep she dreamt of the last time she spoke to the Doctor and everytime she did it broke her heart a little bit more* And I'm not hungry.

*He glanced to the table, at a lose for words. he simply sighed, moving to sit down. He reached out, snatching the paper, scanning it*

How long do you think it's been? I mean...for him *He knew that barely 3 monthes had passed for Rose but it had been 3 years for him. He laughed slightly...he was so close to 30 now, he could almost reach out and touch it.

The thought frightened him, just a bit*

You know Jackie won't accept that

*She looked down at the table, determined not to cry. When she first arrived the mere mention of the Doctor broke her down to tears but now... well now she could hide it. She shrugged* I dunno, its hard to tell time when you're in the TARDIS. *She sighed and picked up the paper nearest her, one that didn't look familiar* She's going to have to accept it, I still have my job to do, this is just coming to work early

Coming to work early? You didn't even come home last night...and you better have been here. Otherwise, I might get a little worried. Well...more worried *He gave her a small smile*

*He then took in a small breath, looking to her* You know...if you keep putting work before your real life...your going to miss out. I know a little boy who might even forget your his sister...*He loved John Tyler to death, treated him like he was a nephew. He was so proud...the boy was so close to walking now*

I came home, just no one noticed. *That was a lie. She stayed late and staying late eventually turned into coming in early. It didn't phase her though. Anything to keep her from having the dreams* Technically I'm his half sister. He can't forget me... *She stopped, her voice dropping to almost a whisper* Do you think he's forgotten me?

I would have noticed. *He muttered, almost offended. He knew the truth, but he was not in a mood to argue with her. He grumbled slightly*

He's a infant. He could too forget who you are. 'Specially if your never around. I mean for gods sake, he sees Jake more then you. If your not here, your off moopin' around Norway...chasin' voices you'll never hear again. *He ranted, almost a little harshly*

No one could forget Rose Tyler

You don't understand Mickey, how much it hurts to look at you all and see people who are happy to be here. You're because you chose to stay, I'm here because I had no choice...*She looked up at him, her eyes full of hurt, for a few seconds then turned away. She knew she was being distant but it was the only way she could cope with the pain. Tears fell silently down her cheeks as she sat, staring at the floor* I'm sorry... its just... I miss him so much. I'm trying, I really am but its going to take time. Remember how Sarah Jane was?

*His head dropped, looking to the table again, shutting his eyes. He pretended like he didn't know...like he didn't realise she was near the brink of tears.

He had gotten good at pretending.

He sighed a little* Yeah...I remember. Her and her tin dog. *He shifted, looking to her* You know he wouldn't want you trying to chase after him when it is impossible...he said it himself...

*She stared off, hot tears still running down her cheeks. She was used to the crying, it barely phased her. Her tone was soft, with almost no emotion, only sadness remained* You think I should just forget him? Give up all hope in finding a way, a loop hole? He said a lot of things that were wrong, why should this time be any different?

I think you should move on. It's the best thing you can do. *He took in a breath* But what do I know? I'm just the tin dog, afterall. *He smiled, standing*

Come home when you get sick of this *He headed for the door*

*She sighed and leaned back in her chair, covering her face with her hands. She took a breath then wiped away her tears, watching him move for the door.* Easier said than done, moving on. *She shut her eyes for a second, then opened them quickly. The vague image of him appeared whenever she closed her eyes* You're not the tin dog, never were. *She nodded slowly and turned back to the papers, shuffling through them for something she might have missed*
